Crispy Air Fryer Sweet Potato (Printable Version)

Golden, seasoned sweet potato fries with a crispy texture, prepared quickly in the air fryer.

# What You'll Need:

→ Sweet Potatoes

01 - 2 large sweet potatoes (approximately 1 lb), peeled

→ Seasoning

02 - 2 tablespoons olive oil
03 - 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional for extra crispiness)
04 - ½ teaspoon sea salt
05 - ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
06 - ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
07 - ¼ teaspoon black pepper

# Method:

01 - Cut peeled sweet potatoes into ¼-inch thick fries.
02 - Soak the cut fries in cold water for 30 minutes to eliminate excess starch, then drain and pat completely dry with paper towels.
03 - In a large bowl, toss the dried fries with olive oil. Optional: sprinkle cornstarch over fries and toss to coat evenly.
04 - Add sea salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper to the fries. Toss until the seasoning is uniformly distributed.
05 - Set the air fryer to 380°F and preheat for 3 minutes.
06 - Place fries in a single layer inside the air fryer basket; cook in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
07 - Cook fries for 16 to 18 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until fries are golden, crisp, and cooked through.
08 - Sprinkle with additional salt if desired and serve immediately.

# Chef's Tips:

01 -
  • They come out ridiculously crispy without a drop of deep-fry oil, which means less guilt and more actual flavor.
  • The whole process takes under 30 minutes from peeling to your plate, making weeknight sides feel effortless.
  • One batch easily feeds the whole table, and they're the kind of side that people ask you to make again and again.
02 -
  • Skipping the soak or the thorough drying step will give you fries that are good but not great—the starch removal really is the difference between chewy and crispy.
  • That optional cornstarch genuinely does change the texture; it creates a crispier exterior that tastes almost fried, and once you try it, you won't go back.
03 -
  • Cut all your fries to roughly the same thickness so they finish cooking at the same time and you don't end up with some burnt and some undercooked.
  • If your air fryer runs hot, drop the temperature to 370°F and add a minute or two—every air fryer has its own personality, so pay attention the first time you make these.
