Strawberry Matcha Latte (Printable Version)

A vibrant three-layered drink combining fresh strawberry puree with frothy matcha and smooth milk for a refreshing treat.

# What You'll Need:

→ Strawberry Layer

01 - 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
02 - 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
03 - 2 tablespoons water

→ Matcha Layer

04 - 2 teaspoons matcha green tea powder
05 - 1/4 cup hot water (175°F)

→ Milk Layer

06 - 1 cup milk of choice (dairy or plant-based)
07 - 1/2 cup ice cubes

# Method:

01 - Combine strawberries, sugar, and water in a small saucepan or microwave-safe bowl. Mash lightly and heat for 2-3 minutes until strawberries are soft and syrupy. Let cool slightly, then blend until completely smooth.
02 - In a small bowl, whisk matcha powder with hot water until completely dissolved and frothy, using a bamboo whisk or milk frother to ensure no lumps remain.
03 - Divide the strawberry puree evenly between two tall serving glasses, distributing it across the bottom of each glass.
04 - Place ice cubes on top of the strawberry layer in each glass, then gently pour the milk over the ice to create the middle layer.
05 - Carefully pour the matcha mixture over the milk layer in each glass, pouring slowly against the side of the glass to maintain distinct layered appearance.
06 - Serve immediately with a wide straw or long spoon. Stir thoroughly before drinking to combine all layers, or sip gradually to experience flavor transitions.

# Chef's Tips:

01 -
  • The strawberry layer tastes like summer captured in syrup, but it comes together in under five minutes
  • Watching the layers form is oddly satisfying, almost like a science experiment you can drink
  • You get that café quality drink without the seven dollar price tag or the barista judging your order
02 -
  • Hot water above 175 degrees will scorch your matcha, making it taste unpleasantly bitter
  • Pouring each layer over the back of a spoon is the secret to keeping those beautiful stripes distinct
  • Straining the strawberry puree removes seeds and gives you that silky smooth texture
03 -
  • Use a wide mouth glass for easier layering and better visibility of those gorgeous stripes
  • Ceremonial grade matcha is not necessary, but avoid the cheapest stuff which can taste grassy and bitter
